City, DSWD renew deal on Pantawid Pamilya

The Cebu City government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) renewed the agreement on the “Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).”

The move will benefit more than a hundred beneficiaries from barangays Lorega, Carreta, Mabolo, Bo. Luz, Ermita, Suba, Pasil, Busay, Cambinocot, Basak San Nicolas, Basak Pardo, Bulacao and Sambag 2.

With the onset of 13 more barangays in 2011, Cebu City officials headed by Mayor Michael Rama signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with DSWD Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre for the set 4 implementation of the program, ensuring the new identified areas of the same support as that of set 1.

With the recent MOA signing, the poor of Cebu City can look forward to a better quality of life for their children.

During the set 1 implementation of the program in 2009, the city’s Department of Social Welfare and Services established a 20 home-base day care facility, assigned a doctor, dentist and an alternative learning system teacher for the Badjaos. It also  conducted capability trainings on gender and development and steady replenishment of supplies in the health centers to ensure monthly compliance of the beneficiaries in set 1 areas.

The 4Ps is a five-year poverty alleviation strategy that provides conditional cash grants to the poor.

To qualify for the program, beneficiaries should comply with certain conditions such as pre- and post-natal care for pregnant women; immunization, weighing and de-worming for children; parents should attend family development session at least once a month to learn about good parenting, responsible parenthood and rights awareness; children should have 85 percent attendance in school per month.
