Retired navy officer receives wheelchair

A RETIRED Navy officer who has mobility problem after suffering a stroke heaved a sigh of relief.

Chief Petty Officer Cis Romero, 63, married, received a wheelchair donation last Friday from Vice Admiral Alexander Pama, flag officer in command of the Philippine Navy.

Romero, who resides in the Navy retirees house in barangay Calawisan, Lapu-Lapu City, said he was thankful for the wheelchair as it would help him. He added he never expected to receive such a gift, “especially that the highest man in the Philippine Navy personally handed it to me.”

“I’m so thankful from the bottom of my heart. No words can express my happiness,” Romero said in Tagalog.

Romero suffered a stroke in 2006, two years after his retirement in 2004.

Pama has been visiting  Navy troops around the country, boosting their morale and supporting their activities.

Three other wheelchairs will be given to another beneficiaries  selected by the Department of Health.

The equipment will be handed over by Commodore Zyril Carlos, Naval Forces Central commander. /CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
