MANILA, Philippines – In the midst of “darkness” and “rottenness” in Philippine politics, Senator Leila De Lima remained hopeful for the country to have better days.
De Lima, who has been in jail for drug related cases, on Monday said Filipinos should remain steadfast despite confusion in politics.
“Despite the darkness that besieges our nation, let us hope that better things will come,” she said in a statement.
“Let not the rottenness of Philippine politics dampen our spirit of resilience and collective will to overcome all adversities,” she added.
The detained senator also wished for politicians in the country to value the hope entrusted to them by the voting public during elections to uplift people’s lives.
De Lima likewise said those in power should find a way to provide equal treatment for people in the marginalized sector in order to preserve democracy in the country.
“That we use these means not for selfish interests, but to truly serve. Let us listen to one another instead of constantly bickering for the sake of the people we swore to protect,” she said.
With this, De Lima asked the public to have a positive outlook in life and make children with huge dreams as their inspiration.
“Maging inspirasyon sana natin ang bawat batang nagsisikap at nangangarap, na balang araw ay makakaahon sila sa hirap at makararanas ng maginhawang bukas ang kanilang pamilya,” De Lima said.
“Sa kabila ng lahat, maipagdiwang sana natin ang Pasko nang matatag ang loob, at buhay ang pag-asa,” she added. /kga
