212-mm amount of rain fell over Camarines Norte in just 24 hrs

MANILA, Philippines – Rains dumped by the northeast monsoon and a low pressure area (LPA) set the highest amount of rainfall over Camarines Norte in the past 24 hours, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) estimates that its station in Daet, Camarines Norte recorded 212.5 mm amount of rainfall from Sunday to Monday. The 24-hour record was only half of the amount of rainfall from the deluge of tropical storm “Ondoy” in Metro Manila in 2009, which saw a record of 455 mm in 24 hours.

Pagasa said Camarines Norte was followed by Infanta, Quezon, which received 133.1mm amount of rain in the past 24 hours.

In Metro Manila, the Science Garden in Quezon City recorded a 59.6-mm rainfall volume in the same period. In Port Area, 45 mm of rain was recorded, according to the state weather bureau.

The northeast monsoon continues to affect the entire Luzon while the LPA was last spotted over the West Philippine Sea.

Weather is seen to improve by Tuesday, Christmas Day.

But a new LPA east of Mindanao may develop into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 to 36 hours, Pagasa said.  /kga
