Senators highlight importance of forgiveness, sharing for Christmas holiday

MANILA, Philippines — On Christmas Eve, senators underscored the importance of forgiveness, empathy, and humility among the public.

In a statement, Senator Nancy Binay said the spirit of Christmas could be seen by the values of the public towards one another.

“Ang diwa ng Pasko ay hindi nasusukat sa materyal na mga bagay. Nagiging mas makabuluhan ang Pasko dahil sa ating ibinabahaging pagmamahal, pag-unawa, at pagpapatawad,” Binay said.

“The simplicity of Christ’s nativity speaks clearly of humility. Kapos man tayo sa mga bagay na materyal, marami po tayong maibibigay sa ating kapwa na magpapasaya sa kanilang Pasko,” Binay added.

Senator Joel Villanueva also said the true meaning of Christmas is the act of sharing one’s blessing.

“As we celebrate the life of Jesus Christ on this momentous occasion, may we always be reminded of the true meaning of Christmas-–sharing, forgiveness, and empathy to our brothers and sisters,” Villanueva said in a statement.

He then expressed gratitude to the Filipinos working abroad who would not be able to come home this holiday season.

According to Villanueva, the Senate is already doing its part in passing some measures that would soon benefit the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs)

“For our OFWs, your families are always with you in spirit, and to all the workers who are still working even on a holiday, your sacrifices are greatly appreciated,” Villanueva said.

“We are positive that with the passage of our measures that seek to benefit our hardworking employees, your untiring service will soon be paid off,” he added./lb
