More than 24,000 sea travelers flock to ports on Christmas Eve

MANILA, Philippines — On the first six hours of Christmas Eve, more than 24,000 passengers have already flocked to various ports across the country.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said it monitored a total of 24,091 outbound passengers from 12 midnight until 6 a.m. of Monday.

The highest number of travelers was recorded in the Central Visayas ports with 6,808 outgoing passengers.

In Southern Tagalog, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas ports, the PCG recorded 4,854, 4,383, and 3,202 outbound passengers, respectively.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,887 passengers passed through the ports located in Northern Mindanao and 1,302 passengers exited the ports in Southern Visayas.

The Bicol and South Eastern Mindanao ports tallied 1,027 and 628 outgoing sea travelers, the PCG noted.

The PCG said that the agency was implementing maximum security on ports and vessels to ensure the safety and security of passengers this Christmas holiday. /je
