MANILA, Philippines — Senators welcomed Sunday the decision of the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), dismissing a junior high school student caught in the now viral video punching and kicking a fellow student.

Senator Richard Gordon on Twitter supported his alma mater’s action saying: “Kick as a bully, kicked out with finality.”

Senator JV Ejercito, for his part, said this incident should “serve as a lesson.”

“May this serve as a lesson. Bully has to be disciplined, but the parents have the bigger fault and responsibility for raising the kid that way,” Ejercito wrote also on Twitter.

Meanwhile, former Solicitor General and 2019 senatorial candidate Florin Hilbay has called ADMU’s action as “decisive.”

“Also, a very good model statement on resolving a problem: reflects on the issue, takes a decisive action, issues a concrete policy for moving forward and engages the larger national community in an inclusive conversation,” Hilbay said.
