3 cops hurt in NPA attack in Sorsogon town

LEGAZPI CITY — Three police officers were wounded in Magallanes town in Sorsogon province Monday night during an attack on their station by two suspected members of New People’s Army (NPA), according to a police report.

The officers were identifed the report only by their surnames — Bartolata, Geum and Espera – and all with the rank of police officer 1.

The two assailants — who were riding on a motorcycle — opened fire on the Magallanes Municipal Police Station at around 8 p.m.

Some residents also reported hearing gunshots in the nearby towns of Juban and Gubat, but the police and the military were still verifying their claims as of this writing. /atm
