Today, Dec. 18, is the 162nd birth anniversary of patriot Graciano Lopez Jaena.
Born in 1856, he is known as the First Filipino Reformist and the Orator of the Reform Movement.
He was also the founder and first editor of La Solidaridad.
Together with Jose Rizal and Marcelo del Pilar, Lopez Jaena used the publication to promote reforms in the country which was controlled by Spaniards.
He died on Jan. 30, 1897.
A monument in Intramuros, Manila, was built in his honor. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
