MANILA, Philippines—Both the police and military forces are preparing their recommendations for the suspension of military and police operations ahead of the holidays, officials from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police said on Tuesday.

AFP Chief of Staff General Eduardo Oban Jr., speaking to reporters after his farewell visit to Camp Crame, which was part of his exit call ahead of his retirement on December 12, said the suspension of their operations were still under talks and recommendations would likely be finalized by next week.

The military official said that he sought to express his gratitude to the PNP through his visit for the forces’ “collective efforts towards peace and security and ako kanina ay nagbigay ng sincerest gratitude sa PNP sa pangunguna ni General Bartolome dahil sa continuing partnership.”

The military has likewise expressed support for the police force in securing former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo when she is finally transferred to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center on Friday.

“Our NCR Command under Major General Tristan Kison is constantly in touch with the PNP… Kung ano man ang kailangan nila na support galing sa AFP as always, andun kami para tumulong (Whatever assistance they need from the AFP, we’re always here to help),” said Oban.
