SAN PEDRO CITY – An alleged leader of a criminal gang wanted for a number of murders was killed after resisting arrest in Sta. Rosa City in Laguna province before noon Monday.
The suspect, Norberto Barredo, 32, was facing three arrest warrants for murder, two of which identified him as Salvador or Badong Barredo, the police said.
Laguna police director Sr. Supt. Elezar Matta, in a text message, said the police went to Barredo’s home in Barangay (village) Pooc around 11:30 a.m. to serve the warrants.
But instead of yielding, the suspect allegedly fired shots, which triggered the shootout. Barredo was killed instantly.
Police said they recovered a .45 caliber gun from the suspect. /kga
