Woman killed in Davao del Sur road crash
MALALAG, DAVAO DEL SUR – A woman was killed while two others were hurt when the motorcycle there were riding fell into a ravine along the national highway here.
Haidie Velasco, 23, was declared dead on arrival at a hospital around 9:00 p.m., following the accident on Sunday, police said.
Provincial police director Sr. Supt. Allan Manibog said Monday Ken Watin Dacay, 20, of Barangay Calabanet, Glan, Sarangani province, was driving a blue motorcycle when he lost control of the bike upon reaching a curve in Sitio Tawal, Barangay Tagansuli.
Dacay and his back-riders Velasco and Benjamen Bertudez, 38, of Silay, Polomolok, South Cotabato then fell into a ravine. Bystanders rushed the victims to the nearby Golingay General Hospital but Velasco expired upon reaching the hospital.
Police advised motorists to be extra careful when traversing the national highway as they observed an increasing number of accidents in the area, especially involving motorcycles, this holiday season.
But some drivers complained the lack of warning signs along the highway where many road constructions have been ongoing. /kga
