NPAs kill wife of militia man in Talaingod, Davao del Norte – PNP

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Two men believed to be members of the Guerrilla Front 55 of the New People’s Army Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (NPA-SMRC) killed the wife of a Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) in Barangay Palma Gil, Talaingod, Davao del Norte, over the weekend, a police spokesperson said Monday.

Speaking for Police Regional Office 11, Chief Insp. Jason Baria  identified the victim as Gina Mantayona, wife of Mario Mantayona, an active Cafgu member in Talaingod.

Baria said the two communist rebels, one of them identified as Rommel Tausan, fired two gunshots at the Mantayona’s house on Saturday at about 4:45 p.m. in Sitio Nasilaban, Barangay Palma Gil.

Mantayona, 23, a sustained gunshot in the right portion of her abdomen during the attack.

She died Saturday night at the Davao Regional Medical Center in Apokon, Tagum City, where she was transferred from the Kapalong District Hospital, according to Baria.

Baria said that Gina’s husband was on duty when the NPAs attacked.

He added that a follow-up investigation was ongoing and charges were being prepared against the killers.

According to Baria, the NPAs may have violated Republic Act 9851 or the “Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide and Other Crimes Against Humanity.” /cbb
