MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District (MPD) on Saturday urged public’s vigilance as crimes are expected to increase during the Christmas season.
Senior Supt. Vicente Danao Jr., MPD chief, raised concern on common crime during the holiday season, such as pickpocketing and “salisi,” or the theft of belongings while their owners are distracted.
“Most prevalent crimes during holiday seasons are crimes against property. Pickpocketing and salisi are the usual crimes being recorded,” Danao said in a statement sent to reporters.
He also advised the public to avoid dealing with strangers and using expensive jewelry and gadgets while walking.
Danao also cautioned people to be vigilant of their personal belongings while walking around public places. /atm
