CAMP SIONGCO, MAGUINDANAO – Unidentified men tossed a hand grenade toward the residential compound of Mayor Ramon Abalos of Lambayong town, Sultan Kudarat, at 7 p.m. on Friday night, police said.
Senior Inspector Herman J. Luna of the Lambayong police office said the two men, riding in tandem on a motorbike, tossed a grenade inside Abalos’ residential compound.
This was the second grenade attack against Abalos’ house this year.
Luna said Abalos was not at home but his police escorts were when the attack happened. No one was hurt.
On July 29, at 6:45 a.m., two men riding in tandem on a motorbike also hurled a hand grenade at the Abalos’ home, hurting the mayor’s brother, town Councilor Carlos Abalos, and their cousin, Richard Abalos, town public supervisor.
The same suspects also hurled another grenade toward the main entrance of the town police office as they fled toward Barangay Tinumigues, Sultan sa Barongis in Maguindanao.
The motive of the grenade attacks has baffled Abalos and the police.
More checkpoints have been put up around the town to prevent similar attacks in the future.
