New AFP chief to replace General Oban will be announced within the week

MANILA, Philippines—The incoming chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines is expected to be announced within the week, a military spokesman said Tuesday.
In a press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo, AFP spokesman Colonel Arnulfo Burgos Jr. said it will be announced ahead of the formal turn-over of command set on Monday which will also be the formal retirement ceremony for outgoing chief General Eduardo Oban Jr..
“Within the week, the replacement of chief of staff General Eduardo Oban Jr. will be known,” Burgos said.
He added the announcement will be made by Malacañang since President Benigno Aquino III will be the one to choose from among those on the list of recommended and qualified military generals.
He added the military forwarded the list of qualified candidates made by the Board of Generals weeks ago. However, Burgos said he did not see the list of names submitted by the BoR adding that it was confidential.
Meanwhile, Burgos said General Oban will busy himself in his final week as the military chief making exit calls.
Burgos said the outgoing military chief is set to visit the Philippine Army and Philippine Navy on Wednesday. On Tuesday, Oban visited the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame and the headquarters of the Philippine Coast Guard in Manila South Harbors.
Last week, Oban attended exit calls at the Philippine Air Force and the Philippine Military Academy, Burgos said.
