Policewoman nabbed for extortion in front of Camp Crame
MANILA, Philippines — A policewoman was arrested in an entrapment operation on Friday for allegedly attempting to extort from a woman a Louis Vuitton bag worth P34,000, a wristwatch worth P2,999, and P50,000 cash from a woman in exchange for evading another police operation.
SPO1 May Ann Malcontento was arrested by elements of the Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) in coordination with CIDG chief Amador Corpus in a convenience store in front of Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Malcontento was assigned at the Anti-Transnational Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Police said the operation stemmed from the complaint of Sonia Gaba, who was previously arrested by the CIDG and charged for illegal recruitment and estafa. Her case on illegal recruitment, however, has been dismissed by the court.
According to the police, the victim claimed that the suspect has been calling her and demanding the said items in exchange for a guarantee that she will not be subjected again to a police operation.
The suspect is now under the custody of the CITF while charges are being prepared against her. /ee
