MANILA, Philippines — The San Juan City Police will tighten its security by deploying police officers near the city’s five churches in anticipation of the traditional dawn Masses or “Simbang Gabi” that last for nine days.
San Juan City Police Chief Supt. Dindo Regis Reyes said the deployment of policemen will ensure the safety of churchgoers.
Reyes said police officers will be on the lookout for petty thieves who might take advantage of the crowded churches.
Police will also set up random checkpoints in the streets near the churches starting and at the city’s 21 barangays starting Dec. 15.
Meanwhile, Reyes vowed to achieve “zero crime” in San Juan City as ordered by Eastern Police District Director Chief Police Supt. Bernabe Balba.
Reyes has advised the public to be vigilant, noting that crimes increase during the Christmas season. /muf
