MANILA, Philippines — Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director Nicanor Faeldon has offered to take a leave of absence after his son was arrested in an anti-drugs operation in Naga City.
“He has offered to go on leave while the matter is under investigation. Law enforcers are conducting investigation on the incident and we await the outcome of such investigation,” Justice Undersecretary and Department of Justice (DOJ) Spokesman Markk Perete told reporters.
However, he said the DOJ opted to first study his offer.
“The Department will have to study the matter, taking into consideration a number of facts, among which are: the Chief has just been recently appointed, and the independence and integrity of the investigation on the matter is not likely to be affected by his stay in the BuCor,” Perete said.
BuCor is an attached agency of the DOJ. Faeldon was recently appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte. /muf
