Man in love triangle kills self—police

MANILA, Philippines—In an unusual twist, a 49-year-old security guard allegedly committed suicide because he could no longer bear being the object of two women’s affection.

Police said Julian Bangit, of Amparo Subdivision, Caloocan City, died shortly after he shot himself in the forehead with his service revolver.

Police Officer 2 Jose Gumilan, of the Manila Police District homicide section, revealed that the incident happened at a pension house along Adriatico Street in Malate at around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

Gumilan said that before the incident, Bangit was manning his post outside the pension house when his girlfriend “Genelyn” suddenly showed up.

But Bangit’s live-in partner, lady guard Genalyn Hate, 25, was on duty with him, prompting him to drive the girlfriend away to avert a cat fight between the women.

Irked by the brusque treatment, Genelyn slapped Bangit and insisted that it was Hate whom he should be driving away and not her then attempted to grab the .38 cal. service in his hip holster.

Gumilan said Bangit prevented Genelyn from taking the gun and begged her to let him go.

Hate, in her account to police, said her lover told the other woman in Filipino, “Just release me. I’ve had enough. It hurts already,” after which he went inside the pension house, gun in hand, leaving them standing outside.

The women then heard the sound of a gunshot.

While Genelyn was left outside the establishment, Hate went to check on her live-in partner and found him on the carpeted floor, gasping for breath and with blood oozing from his forehead.

Police said Bangit died while Hate sought their colleagues’ help in bringing him to the nearest hospital. His body was brought to the St. Yvan funeral homes for autopsy and safekeeping.
