The Philippine Statistics Authority said that in 2017, 5.3 million people (accounting for 13.1 percent of the total employment in the country) were in the tourism industry. It also showed that employment in the tourism industry was divided into 37.9 percent for passenger transport; 33 percent for accommodation, food and beverage; 15.7 percent for miscellaneous; 6.6 percent for tourism retail trade; 6.2 percent for recreation, entertainment and cultural services; and 0.7 percent for travel agents, tour operations and tourism guides. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
