Maguindanao village councilor hurt in gun attack

CAMP SIONGCO, MAGUINDANAO – A village councilman in Maguindanao is now in critical condition after gunmen shot him in Shariff Aguak town on Wednesday, police said.

Senior Supt. Madzgani Mukaram, Maguindanao police director, said Samsudin Abdulkarim, 49, village council member of Barangay Satan, Shariff Aguak, was driving his dump truck when the gunmen on board a black sedan car blocked his path.

One of the suspects alighted and sprayed Abdulkarim’s dump truck with bullets, using an M-16 Armalite rifle, police said.

Abdulkarim, who owns a hollow block-making business, had just hauled sand from a quarry when shot at 11 a.m.

Mukaram said the motive of the attack could be personal or business-related.

Based on police records, Abdulkarim was the 5th village councilman shot in Maguindanao this year. Three of them died.
