MIDSAYAP, NORTH COTABATO–A village treasurer was gunned down by still unidentified suspect here Wednesday.
Supt. Joan Maganto, Midsayap town police chief, identified the victim as Ahmad Kumayog, 43, treasurer of Barangay Mudsing and an active peace advocate working for the ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL).
The BOL is an enabling law of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) signed by the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) that will create a new political entity for Bangsamoro in Mindanao.
Maganto said Kumayog, chair of the United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD), was driving his motorbike heading for home in Barangay Mudsing at past 1 p.m. Wednesday.
While cruising the national highway in Barangay Glad, one of two armed men on separate motorbikes shot him using a cal. 45 pistol.
Motorists rushed Kumayog, also a member of North Cotabato Composite Team of Civil Society Organizations (NCCT-CSO), to Pisante hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
“We call upon the police authorities and even the Philippine military to conduct a thorough investigation of the killing of Kumayog in the interest of justice,” Taher Solaiman, NCCT-CSO chair, said.
