Poe welcomes early Christmas break for students

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Grace Poe on Wednesday welcomed the Department of Education’s (DepEd) move to implement an early Christmas break for students, saying that it would help ease the expected holiday rush traffic on the metro’s streets.

Poe added that the move  will also give a chance for students to bond with their families during the holidays.

“Hindi lang ito makakatulong na maibsan ang matinding trapiko tuwing paparating ang pasko, magkakaroon din ng mas mahabang panahon ang mga estudyante para makapiling ang kanilang mga pamilya sa Kapaskuhan,” Poe said in a statement.

Poe was the one who suggested an earlier Christmas vacation for students to help decongest the metro’s main roads during the holiday season.

The DepEd released an order last Nov. 28 that set the start of Christmas vacation for elementary and high school students on Dec. 15 from the original Dec. 22.

Meanwhile, teachers will start their vacation on December 16.

However, it is on the discretion of private schools if they will implement it.

Classes will resume on January 2 next year with the last day of classes on April 5.

“Dapat isaalang-alang din na hindi makokompromiso ang edukasyon ng mga bata,” the senator said. /muf
