Gunrunning suspects killed by Navotas police
Two suspected gunrunners were killed in a shootout with policemen on Tuesday morning.
According to the Northern Police District, the still unidentified men tried to sell a .38-caliber revolver to a policeman on C3 Road at Barangay North Bay Boulevard North in Dagat-Dagatan, Navotas City.
However, the suspects reportedly sensed that they were dealing with a law enforcer and tried to shoot him, leading to a firefight with him and other policemen.
Recovered from the slain suspects were a .45-caliber gun with serial number 195859 P7, a .38-caliber revolver without any serial number, a third firearm, a sachet believed to contain “shabu” (crystal meth) and a P20 bill. —Mariejo S. Ramos
Taguig cops catch 2 men selling ‘shabu’ to sleepy truck drivers
Two men who were allegedly selling “shabu” (crystal meth) to truckers desperate to stay awake during long trips were arrested by police antidrug operatives in Taguig City on Sunday.
Members of the National Capital Region Police Office’s Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) took into custody Cussel Galura, 22 and Joel Ledesma, 42, both residents of Las Piñas City, after a drug bust at the corner of C-6 Road and Seagull Street in Barangay San Miguel.
Chief Insp. Ferdinand Mendoza, NCRPO-RDEU head, said that the suspects sold to one of his men 25 g of shabu worth P170,000.
The police later recovered from the two men four more packs of shabu, for a total of P374,000 worth of drugs.
“Based on our information, they were selling shabu to truckers from Rizal province plying C-6 Road on the way to southern Metro Manila,” Mendoza said. —Dexter Cabalza
56 more BI personnel assigned to airports for holiday rush
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced on Monday that it had deployed an additional 56 personnel to different airports nationwide for the holidays.
“We are actually expecting an upsurge in travelers entering the Philippines by around the second or third week of December,” said BI Port Operations Division chief Grifton Medina.
Of the 56 immigration officers, 19 were assigned to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport while the rest were deployed to the airports in Clark, Pampanga; Mactan island in Cebu; Kalibo, Aklan and Davao City. —Tina G. Santos
