Man dies in motorcycle-truck crash in Davao del Sur
DIGOS CITY – A 24-year-old motorcycle rider was killed in a head-on collision with a cabover pick-up truck in Davao del Sur last Sunday night.
Supt. Deozar Almasa, city police director, on Monday identified the fatality as Jeffrey Catuban, a resident of Kingking Pantucan, Compostela Valley.
According to Almasa, the victim was driving his motorcycle towards the city proper but upon reaching Purok Manggahan in Barangay Kiagot around 10 p.m. Catuban swerved to the truck’s lane and crashed head on.
He said the motorcycle was dragged by the pick-up truck and eventually rolled over before falling into the concrete canal, causing serious physical injuries to the driver.
Catuban was declared dead on arrival at a government hospital in Davao del Sur.
Almasa then warned motorcycle drivers against driving too fast especially at night as the Davao-Cotabato national highway is lacking road warnings.
Police noted an increasing number of motorcycle road crash as many Christmas parties have been happening recently amid the holiday season. /kga
