Bulacan mayoral bet barricades self at home to foil arrest

MARILAO, BULACAN – A mayoral candidate barricaded himself inside his house from Thursday night (Dec. 6) to Friday morning (Dec. 7) to prevent policemen from serving him an arrest warrant for qualified theft.

Relatives of Andre Santos said he would not yield because he believed the charges were meant to damage his candidacy in the midterm polls.

Supt. Ricardo Pangan, Marilao police chief, said Santos prevented his men from serving a warrant issued by a Paranaque regional trial court about 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Pangan said Santos was believed to be armed and appeared to be emotionally disturbed.

Santos was a former councilor who lost to incumbent Vice Mayor Henry Lutao in the 2016 elections. Carmela Reyes-Estrope
