’FIRECRACKERS DEALERS MUST SECURE CLEARANCE’

The law regulating the sale and display of firecrackers, will be strictly implemented as the holiday season comes.

Only cities of Mandaue and Cebu have ordinances designating areas for the display of firecrackers.

In Cebu City, it’s the South Road Properties.

For Mandaue City, its the North Reclamation Area.

The police chef and barangay officials will also  identify areas  for firecracker zones, where pyrotechncs can be safely exploded.

Firecracker manufacturers, dealers, retailers, sellers should secure a clearance from the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) for their business to be legal.

Without a clearance, goods will be seized and vendors will be charged,  said Senior Supt. Louie Oppus, deputy regional director for operation of the PRO-7 during the  Talakayan Sa Isyung Pulis (TSIP) forum.

Even retailers with a mayor’s permit who fail to get a clearance from the PNP regional director are still operating illegally, he said.

Police also urged local government units to identify fire-prone areas for public safety.

Retailers need to submit a  letter request of the applicant, barangay clearance, police clearance, fire safety clearance, mayor’s permit, authorization to retail from manufacturers or dealers, certification from manufacturer or dealer, and retailers fee payable to Land Bank.

A license fee of P10,000 is charged for manufacturers, P5,000 for dealers, P1,000 for retailers, and P1,000 for display operators./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
