JAMES Yap continues to lead the resurgence of the BMEG Derby Ace Llamados as he led the squad to back-to-back wins in the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup, which earned him Player of the Week honors for the period of Nov. 28 to Dec. 4.
It was the second such citation for Yap in the conference after being similarly honored in the period Nov. 7 to 13 and coach Tim Cone firmly believes nobody is more deserving.
Yap is averaged 21.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steal in B-MEG’s wins over Talk ‘N Text and Barako Bull.
He first scattered 27 points on 11-for-17 field goal shooting in a 114-104 victory over the Tropang Texters on Nov. 29.
He shot 5-for-6 in the fourth period to help turn the close contest into a runaway and also finished with four rebounds and three assists.
Against the Energy last Saturday, Yap did not have such a good scoring night. But his leadership on the court and on the sidelines, plus his 15 points, helped the Llamados escape with a 91-90 squeaker.
Those victories stretched the Llamados’ winning streak to a conference-best seven, improved their slate to 9-4 (win-loss) and moved within sight of a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals that goes with a top two finish in the eliminations.
