Director Guillermo Eleazar on Tuesday called on students of the University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University to not use social media to stir trouble in the UAAP championship series.
Eleazar, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), made the appeal even as he expressed belief that no trouble would erupt between students of the two “prestigious and respected” schools when their basketball teams clash on Wednesday.
He said he was confident that the students were conscious that the showdown was just a sport.
“Enjoy the moment and set a good example. This is not just a basketball game between 10 players on the court. It is a game between top students in our country, and all students nationwide are watching you,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the NCRPO said it would intensify its efforts against scalping after the police arrested 17 for selling UAAP tickets at much higher prices during the UAAP Finals’ Game 1 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr., director of the Quezon City Police District, said the police would also arrest scalpers for Game 2 to be held at the Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.

Eleazar said members of the audience who would disrupt the game would face arrest. /cbb
