The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced the launch of the Malabon-Taguig line of the Philippine National Railways (PNR).

In an advisory, the DOTr said that the PNR Malabon-Taguig began operating on Monday.

Transport Secretary Arthur Tugade said operations were still part of a dry-run to give way to more improvements on the line.

Tugade said that PNR General Manager Junn Magno promised to improve the appearance of PNR trains by next year.

“Sabi ni Junn Magno, ‘Hihilamusin natin ito sa Enero. Promise ko, sir, pagdating ng mga bagong bagon natin, ‘yang gusgusing bagon na ‘yan, magiging bago sa Hunyo’,” Tugade said.

The fare for air-conditioned coaches would cost P25 while for non-air-conditioned coaches would cost P20.

It would ferry passengers from the Gov. Pascual platform in Malabon to the FTI station in Taguig.

The DOTr expects travel time from Malabon to Taguig to go down to 58 minutes following the launch, the DOTr said. /cbb
