Mom appeals: Help my sick 5-year-old son
To save up on expenses while her 5-year-old son is being treated for acute lymphoblastic myelogenous leukemia (ALML), Noemi Sobrepeña volunteered as a security guard at an old shelter home in Quezon City.
“I told the management that instead of employing real guards, why not hire me and the mother of another patient? We’re thankful they agreed, even giving each of us a daily P50 meal allowance,” 41-year-old Sobrepeña told the Inquirer.
Costly treatment
In August 2016, her son, Prince Jacob, was diagnosed with ALML and doctors at Philippine Children’s Medical Center recommended that he undergo 14 chemotherapy sessions, each one costing P22,000. He will undergo his fifth one on Dec. 13.
Sobrepeña appealed to Inquirer readers for financial assistance, as her husband, Junnel, had stopped working as a tricycle driver to look after their son. The couple’s four other children are in Puerto Princesa City.
