NAGA CITY—Camarines Norte’s former governor, Jesus Typoco Jr., and the provincial treasurer have disappeared after warrants for their arrest on graft charges were issued by the Sandiganbayan.
Policemen serving the warrants issued by the third division of the antigraft court went to the houses of Typoco and provincial treasurer Lorna A. Coreses but did not find them, according to Gov. Edgar Tallado.
Typoco, Coreses and schools division superintendent Ariston M. Villareal are facing charges arising from an alleged “ghost” project at Daet Elementary School.
No bail was recommended for Typoco and Coreses, but the Sandiganbayan allowed Villareal to post a P30,000 bail.
In a phone interview on Monday, Tallado said some 20 policemen tried to serve the arrest warrant on Typoco on Nov. 30 at his beachfront house in Barangay Bagasbas in Daet.
He said Coreses could not also be found at her house in the capital. She has stopped reporting for work at the capitol since last week and is believed to have also left the province, according to the governor. Juan Escandor Jr., Inquirer Southern Luzon
