Slay suspect falls
A team of intelligence officers arrested a man touted as among Parañaque City’s most wanted persons on Sunday night. Chief Inspector Enrique Sy, head of the Parañaque police’s investigation section, said that Absamin Musa, 23, stands accused of killing a police official in May. He was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday on Harrison Street in Baclaran. Musa became one of the city’s most wanted men after being implicated in the shooting of Police Officer 3 Maphilindo Prades in May. Prades was part of a team that carried out a sidewalk clearing operation on Redemptorist Road. He was then shot by a man who fled the scene on a motorcycle. Prades was rushed to the hospital but died while receiving treatment.—Miko Morelos
Center for minors rehabilitated
“This is a place for juvenile offenders without the jail bars,” Mandaluyong Mayor Benhur Abalos said Monday at the inauguration of the refurbished and improved center for children in conflict with the law. With a computer room, a library and a chapel, the center, located on Lion’s Road in Barangay (village) Ilaya, no longer looks like a detention center, Abalos told reporters. Bahay Pag-asa, formerly known as Bahay Lingap, the center for young delinquents run by the city’s social welfare department, was improved with the help of actor Dingdong Dantes’ group Yes Pinoy Foundation and the Metro Manila Mayors’ Spouses Foundation.—Niña Calleja
