LOOK: Senators congratulate UP for UAAP 81 Final Four victory

Senators celebrated the victory of University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons on Wednesday against the Adamson Soaring Falcons in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball Final Four.

Sen. Francis Escudero said that he was still studying in UP when its college basketball team made to the finals. He lauded the Fighting Maroons for playing in what he said was one of the best basketball games he had ever witnessed.

“I was in 1st-year college, 32 years ago, when UP last made it to the finals. Congrats to the UP Fighting Maroons!!!! Kudos to the Adamson team as well as both teams gave it their all!!! Certainly one of the best basketball games I have ever watched,” he said on Twitter on Wednesday.

After the Senate session, Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri also celebrated the UP win, noting that there are 11 senators who graduated from UP.

“GO U.P.!!! Congrats to my Alma mater in getting into the finals of UAAP Basketball Championships!!” Zubiri said in a statement. “There is by the way 11 Senators from U.P. All proud Maroons!!”

Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon, and Sen. Richard Gordon also joined Zubiri in watching the basketball game.

Meanwhile, Sen. Nancy Binay shared on Twitter her message for the UP team: “Congratulations UP Fighting Maroons! #AtinTo #UPFight #DiNaExemptedSaFinals.”

Senatorial aspirant Florin Hilbay noted that UP’s entry into the finals, against the Ateneo Blue Eagles, brought them a step closer to being champions.

“Iskolar ng bayan, malapit nang maging kampeon. Kahit pagbali-baligtarin, panalo pa rin!” he said on Twitter. /atm
