Today, Nov. 28, is the 19th death anniversary of National Artist for Literature Nestor Vicente Madali Gonzalez, better known as N.V.M Gonzalez.
Born on Sept. 8, 1915, in Romblon, he was a renowned fictionist, essayist, poet and teacher.
Among his known major works included “The Winds of April,” “Seven Hills Away” and “The Bamboo Dancers.”
Gonzalez won numerous awards, including the First Commonwealth Literary Contest, Republic Cultural Heritage Award and Gawad CCP Para sa Sining.
He was conferred the title of National Artist in 1997.
