The House of Representatives on Monday unanimously approved on final reading a bill requiring that motorcycle headlights be switched on at all times while on the road.
The chamber passed House Bill No. 8322 or the “Mandatory Automatic Headlights On for Motorcycles Act” with 215 affirmative votes and no negative votes or abstention.

Once enacted into law, all motorcycles must have their headlights on while plying any road nationwide.
HB 8322 also mandates motorcycle manufacturers to equip their products with an automatic headlights-on system. Importation of a motorcycle without an automatic headlights-on system will be unlawful under the proposed law.
Disobeying motorcycle riders and motorcycle manufacturers might be fined P1,000 to P5,000, and P5,000 to P20,000, respectively, under the bill. Their licenses might also be suspended under the measure.
Both chambers of Congress should approve a consolidated version of the proposal before President Rodrigo Duterte could sign it into law. /kga
