Airport employees return P120K to Korean visitor

Airport employees have returned P120,000 in cash to a Korean national, the Manila International Airport Authority said (Miaa) on Monday.

In an advisory, the Miaa said Hwang Sung Ha dropped his pouch at the UBE Express bus counter at the arrival area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminal 1 on October 31, 2018.

Judith Mertola of Lucky Jet Travel & Tours found the pouch on Nov. 1 and inspected the wallet.

The pouch contained an Asiana Club Visa card, Shinsegae Duty Free card,  31,000 Korean won; 6,020 Thailand baht, US$2,056, and P20, or the equivalent of P120,000.

Mertola then reported the incident to the lost and found section of the airport. Authorities tried but failed to contact Ha.

However, before Ha’s departure from the country on Monday, Nov. 26, ground handling agents approached him to return his belongings.

Ha was at first “speechless” upon recovering his pouch and admitted that he got “dismayed” that he would leave the country with a “bad impression.”

“This experience is worth sharing with my colleagues and relatives. I will tell them that Filipinos are honest and hospitable,” Ha said. /ee
