Construction worker, helper nabbed in Davao del Sur drug bust

MAGSAYSAY, DAVAO DEL SUR – A construction worker and his helper were arrested in a joint police operation in Barangay Mabini here at 5:50 p.m. on Sunday.

Senior Insp. Cris Ian Taghap, Magsaysay town police chief, said Dioscuro Gabihan also known as Koroy, 42, and his helper Jay-Ar Traya Belarmino, 27, were arrested by the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, Magsaysay police station, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Police said Arro was caught in possession of two sachets of a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu (crystal meth) estimated to be worth P2,000, marked money of P500 and a caliber .38 revolver.

Arro, however, said the drugs and firearms were not his.

He said he was attending the baptismal party of his granddaughter when the raiding team arrived.

Arro admitted he was involved in illegal drugs trade before but he already surrendered to authorities during the conduct of “Oplan Tokhang.”

“I even submitted to the police the result of my drug test but still I don’t know why they arrested me,” Arro said in vernacular.

Taghap said cases of violation of the comprehensive anti-illegal drugs act of 2002 and illegal possession of firearms would be filed against Arro and Belarmino.
