More boats, stations eyed for Pasig River Ferry System

In its five-year Regional Development Plan (RDP) for the National Capital Region, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has identified the Pasig River Ferry System (PRFS) as a viable alternative for commuters looking for a way to avoid getting stuck in heavy traffic.

The RDP for 2017 to 2022 is a long-term development framework that identifies the region’s goals to transform Manila into a highly competitive East Asian metropolis.

President Duterte earlier cited the PRFS as one of his key programs to ease traffic in Metro Manila, which prompted the Department of Budget and Management to come up with the ambitious Pasig River Convergence Program.

The program will add more stations and boats to the ferry system.

It will also create a multi-agency commission to help establish the system as an alternative transport mode connecting Manila and Laguna de Bay by 2022.
