‘Tomas’ enters, exits, to enter PAR a 2nd time

Typhoon “Tomas” (international name: Man-Yi) could be the most fickle weather disturbance to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

On Saturday, it briefly entered PAR but left as quickly as it came in. Weather experts see the typhoon coming back, though.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, however, Tomas continued to hover over the Pacific Ocean.

Weather specialist Gener Quitlong said latest forecasts predicted that Tomas would not make landfall on any part of the Philippines even as it was seen to reenter PAR again on Sunday.

Erratic

As of 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, the center of the typhoon was located at 1,515 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan.

It was carrying maximum sustained winds of 145 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kph, and was moving at a north northeast direction at a speed of 15 kph, Quitlong said.

He said the erratic behavior of Tomas had been influenced by the cold air coming from the northern hemisphere and the typhoon may disintegrate in the next two days.

Current track forecast predict the typhoon to be out of PAR by Nov. 29.

While Tomas will not have a direct effect on the country, sea travel will still be risky in the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Visayas due to rough to very rough seas.
