Kapampangan heritage is celebrated in a weeklong festival in San Fernando City, Pampanga province.
The festival’s name came from the mythical demigod King Sinukwan, who lived on Mt. Arayat.
Activities include food and crafts fair, spoken word competition, folk dance workshop and interpretative dance competition.
Nov. 28 to Dec. 1: Munato Festival
An arts and music festival at the town of Alabel in Sarangani province showcasing the culture of indigenous groups B’laan and T’boli. “Munato” is a B’laan word meaning first inhabitants.
Festivities include a cultural presentation, folk dance competition, indigenous peoples’ day and Sarangani week of peace.
Dec. 1 to 2: Pawikan Festival
A festive campaign to protect olive ridley sea turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea), which nest on the Morong beach town in Bataan province.
Held annually since 2001, the festival’s highlight is the ceremonial release of sea turtle hatchlings to the West Philippine Sea.
Other activities include an environment forum, sand sculpture contest, quiz bee, paddle painting contest and a visual art exhibit.
