A 13-year-old student has been arrested by operatives from the Southern Police District (SPD) for his alleged involvement in a robbery-extortion incident in Silang, Cavite.
Meanwhile, four police officers suspected of being involved in the extortion case managed to escape arrest after a short chase along Guyabano Street in Las Piñas City on Tuesday evening.
According to reports from the SPD, they received a complaint from a woman from Barangay Bulihan in Silang that her brother was arrested over drug-related charges. Police said the arresting polie officers promised to release the suspect after payment for his freedom.
The arrested minor identified his cohorts as PO3 Joel Lupig, PO2 Vener Guanlao, PO1 Jefferson Fulgencio, and PO1 Jeffrey De Leon. All of them are assigned at the Las Piñas City Police’s Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU).
Police said the accused police officers used a grey Isuzu Hi-lander truck with a “Sinaglahi” sticker in their escape. Investigators recovered from the scene the marked P30,000 cash, two guns, and a grey motorcycle allegedly owned by a certain P01 Buenaventura.
Follow up operations are now being undertaken, while administrative and criminal charges against the police officers are being prepared. The minor was turned over to the City Social and Welfare Development office for counseling. /muf
