The state weather bureau continues to monitor severe tropical storm Man-Yi (international name), which is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) over the weekend.
The tropical storm is projected to enter PAR between Saturday night and early Sunday and will then be named “Tomas,” weather specialist Gener Quitlong said.
Man-Yi was last spotted 1,400 kilometers east of Southern Luzon, blowing maximum sustained winds of 145 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 180 kph.
It was moving west northwest at 25 kph.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will bring light rain over Northern Luzon. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have fair weather. /muf
