SAN PEDRO CITY – Thousands of residents were forced to flee their homes in Palawan province due to threats of flood and landslides brought about by Tropical Depression “Samuel.”
A report from the regional disaster risk reduction and management council in Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan on Thursday afternoon said 1,170 persons or 234 families sought shelter in evacuation centers in Taytay, Cuyo, and Masaysay towns.
The highest number of evacuees was recorded in Taytay with 123 families.
“But we are expecting that this (number) will be reduced by afternoon,” said RDRRMC director Eugene Cabrera in a text message, Thursday.
In Cuyo, five villages were reportedly flooded due to heavy rains on Wednesday afternoon. These were Catadman, Cabigsing, Tenga-tenga, Bancal, and Suba. Reports said the water rose to about a meter high.
