Malacañang on Thursday released the appointment paper of Senator Gringo Honasan as the new secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
President Rodrigo Duterte signed Honasan’s appointment on Tuesday.
Honasan, who is slated to replace DICT Acting Secretary SEliseo Rio Jr., is the second senator of the 17th Congress to leave his post to join the Cabinet.
The first was Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, who vacated his seat to become the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Cayetano then resigned as DFA chief to gun for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2019 midterm elections.
Honasan’s appointment came after the government selected Mislatel, a consortium composed of China Telecom and Davao tycoon Dennis Uy’s Udenna Corp and Chelsea Logistics, as the third major telco player in the country to break the duopoly of PLDT, Inc. and Globe Telecom. /muf
