TD ‘Samuel’ makes second landfall in Iloilo

Tropical Depression “Samuel” made its second landfall in Iloilo on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Pagasa added that as “Samuel” landed over Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo at 9 a.m., the effects of the tropical depression weakened in other parts of the country. 

At 2 a.m., “Samuel” made its first landfall in Samar.

The cyclone warning over the provinces of Masbate including Ticao island, Biliran, and Leyte had already been lifted.

Pagasa also noted that “Samuel” has accelerated with a speed of 40 kilometers per hour (kph). It is forecasted to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday evening or Friday morning.

“Samuel” is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph.

The weather bureau said that moderate to heavy rain is expected over the whole Region 4, Western Visayas, Aurora, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes.

As of 10 a.m., “Samuel” was spotted in the vicinity of Leganes, Iloilo.

Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over the following provinces: Romblon, southern part of Oriental Mindoro, southern part of Occidental Mindoro, Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo groups of islands, northern Cebu, northern Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, and Antique. /jpv
