PNP says no warrant, no arrest of Imelda

Absent a court order, the Philippine National Police (PNP) claimed its hands are tied against arresting former first lady Imelda Marcos, who has been convicted of seven counts of graft.

Chief Supt. Benigno Durana, PNP spokesperson, said police would violate the “rights of the convicted person if we arrest her without a warrant.”

“We are respecting the rights of the convicted person to legal recourse,” Durana said. “The decision is not yet final and executory so why would we speed it up?” Durana added. —Jaymee T. Gamil
