‘Samuel’ slows down, to make landfall in Eastern Samar, Dinagat islands

The Tropical Depression “Samuel” has slightly slowed down as it heads toward the Leyte Gulf Area, the state weather bureau said on Tuesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said it is expected to make landfall between the Southern portion of Eastern Samar and Dinagat islands this evening.

As of 7 p.m., Pagasa said Samuel was last spotted at 135 kilometers east-southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, moving west-northwest at 15 kilometers per hour (kph).

It has maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kph and gustiness of up to 65 kph.

Pagasa said moderate to heavy rains, which may result in flooding and landslides, is expected over the Visayas, the Bicol Region, Mimaropa, and Southern Quezon.

The weather bureau advised fisherfolks and people who own small seacrafts to refrain from sea voyage in areas under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 1 and in northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon.
