Gunmen assassinate village councilor in Malabon

A barangay councilor was killed after being shot by two unidentified gunmen in Malabon City Tuesday.

Police identified the victim as Rodrigo Tambo, 40, a village councilor at Barangay Catmon in Malabon City, who was shot by the assailants along Dulong Hernandez Street at around 8:30 a.m.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim and a companion were having conversation when the armed men suddenly appeared from behind and opened fire at them. 

The victim died on the spot while his companion, who now stood as prime witness, survived the attack, according to a report from the Northern Police District.

Investigation disclosed that the gunmen, who were wearing white and black shirts and short pants, are estimated to be in their early 30s. Both of them fled on foot after consumating the crime. 

Personnel from the Philippine National Police-Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered five spent shells from the crime scene. Follow-up operation is being conducted to track down the perpetrators as of this posting. /jpv
